I was born in 1964 and raised from the craddle on Batman.
I am Mark Propst and by the time I was in high school I was selling my art to the other children for their lunch money.
Fresh out of high school I was focused on working with the pros had I admired so much. I attened every comic book show and bought every professional comic page I could get my hands on. Discovered the tools the pros used and which lines each made. Also when they are most effective to use.
At 20 I met Bill Black and he suggested I stop by if I am ever in his town. Two months later I drove there and he put me to work. Bought 4 short back up stories I was working on. A couple months later I was drawing his top title at Americomics on Femforce with isue 3.
I wasn't 25 when I first met David Anthony Kraft. I had sent him samles of my work via the mail. I worked on Southern Knights and we co created our X-Thieves book that ran two years. Dave was as much my mentor as he was my friend. If you knew him at all you know he worked under Stan Lee at Marvel. He taught me so much of what Stan had taught him. He changed me forever.
By the time I was 28 I had already a done a dozen differnt indie books, worked at Marvel penciling a Web of Spider-man annual, and worked on the Aliens vs Predators original series.
At 29 I got serious, I still wanted that fabled full time job at either DC or Marvel. I hid myself away. I practiced, studied, and pushed myself harder than ever before. Told myself before I turned 30 I would have this or walk away.
I had six months left when they hired me full time. I stayed busy as anyone could ask for during the next decade. I worked and more importantly learned from the best of the best in comics.
I have been on Lobo(4 years), REBELS ( 1 year) , The Atom, Wonder Woman, JSA, JLA, Relative Heroes, Action Comics, DC showcase, Pin-up books and 3d Books, JSA Secret Files, JLA Secret Files, JLAtlantis, Aquaman (1 Year), Birds of Prey, Titans, Superman, and the list goes on. Use any comic database for a more detailed list.
Those years taught me more than all of my other experiences.
I have returned a few times since to work on Justice League, Ruka's Wonder Woman and Morrison's New 52 Action Comics.
